Our recurring theme for the week (and the entire month of February, actually) is heart health. Here are two of our favorite tasty and nutritious recipes to support a healthy cardiovascular system:
Heart Healthy Juice Recipe
3 celery stalks
3 carrots (medium-sized)
cabbage – 2 leaves
spinach – 2 handfuls
garlic – 1 clove (optional)
Process all ingredients in a juicer, shake or stir and serve.
Heart Healthy Smoothie Recipe
Blueberries are known for their high concentration of antioxidants. They’re especially rich in phytochemicals (plant chemicals that have protective or disease preventive properties). Avocados are a super food loaded with high monounsaturated fatty acids, which help reduce the risk of heart disease.
- 1 cup coconut water
- ½ cup frozen blueberries
- 1 orange
- ¼ avocado, pitted
- 2-3 large handfuls of baby spinach or other leafy greens
- 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
First put coconut water in blender. Add berries, orange, and avocado. Add the greens and flax seeds to your blender last. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.
