Simple is always good, especially where your health is concerned.  The food we consume each day is vitally important to ultimately obtain optimal health and well being.  Here are a few simple guidelines to help you get started:

  1. Avoid as many processed foods as possible (these foods are typically canned, bottled, or packaged, and have a long list of ingredients).  Replace with fresh, raw foods (organic non-starchy vegetables are a great place to start).  Incorporate more green leafy veggies, broccoli, asparagus, onions, garlic, etc.  Non-starchy vegetables are nutrient-dense and low in calories.  The majority of the food on your plate should be loaded with these gems.
  2.  Limit grain intake and replace with healthy fats, such as avocados, raw nuts and seeds, and coconuts and coconut oil.
  3. Eat moderate amounts of clean protein sources, such as grass-fed meats, pastured poultry, wild-caught fish, pastured eggs, beans, nuts and seeds.  Protein regulates blood sugar levels and should be consumed throughout the day.
  4. Avoid fructose-containing foods and drinks (be sure to check label for ingredients like corn syrup and/or high fructose corn syrup).  Replace sodas and other sweetened beverages with clean, pure water.

Your body will thank you as you begin to incorporate these basic dietary changes into your daily life.  Healthy eating provides us with the right balance of vitamins, minerals, and other needed nutrients.   It will help to prevent disease states, control weight, boost energy levels, increase longevity and improve quality of life.
